Residency: Jules Rimer

  • Everybody Arts Shaw Lane Halifax, England, HX3 9ET United Kingdom (map)

Open afternoons: Wednesday 13 and Thursday 14 August 2025, 1-4pm

Following her Embodied Cycles Collection, which explored cyclical living and the impact of menstrual cycles on women’s lives, Jules is now beginning a new collection focused on motherhood and the journey of becoming a mother—framed through the lens of the creative cycle. Much like the seasons, this cycle moves through four phases: Ideas, Holding, Birthing, and Pleasure.

Across her residency, Jules will create sketchbook studies exploring what each phase of the creative cycle looks like for a mother, using personal reflections and symbolism to guide my work. These studies will inform a series of larger mixed media pieces, integrating photography from her own experience—images of her pregnant and with her children—as a foundation for deeper exploration.

Jules’ residency will form the heart of her upcoming Finding Calm in the Chaos collection, which will include artwork and creative resources designed to support mothers through the transformative process of matrescence. By weaving together creativity and introspection, this collection will offer a space for mothers to reconnect with themselves amid the beauty and chaos of motherhood.

About the Artist

Jules Rimer’s art explores the cyclical nature of earth, women, and nature, moving between intuitive, playful abstracts and symbolic illustration as a means of self-exploration. Jules is drawn to patterns, mandalas, and illustrative portraits, layering marks, symbolism, and bold, joyful colour to bring life to my work. Working primarily in mixed media and digital illustration, Jules explores themes of motherhood, the power of women, and natural cycles. Her sketchbook practice is a space for raw exploration, while her finished pieces translate the reflections from her sketchbooks into more intentional pieces. Jules believes in creative expression as a powerful tool for self discovery, to heal, ground, and connect—to ourselves, each other, and the world around us. Her work invites a moment of pause and reflection, embracing both the beauty and the messiness of being human.
