Humari Kahaniyan - Our Stories

A collaborative project with Calderdale Industrial Museum and We Belong Here

Celebrate the stories of the South Asian community

About the Exhibition

Saturday 13 September - Saturday 22 November 2025 at Calderdale Industrial Museum

For full details and opening times, visit https://calderdaleindustrial.co.uk/

Bringing together oral histories, artworks and artefacts, Humari Kahaniyan reveals the pivotal role played by South Asian people in Calderdale’s textile mills.

Uniting Calderdale residents young and old, you’ll hear their histories in their own words and see the objects they worked with.

The exhibition is the result of a project led by Everybody Arts for Calderdale Industrial Museum, with the support of We Belong Here, and undertaken in partnership with local organisations and individuals.

The project would not have been possible without funding gratefully received from CultureDale.

Get involved

We will be holding a launch event for the exhibition on Friday 19 September, 6.30-8.30pm. If you’d like to come along, please email info@everybodyarts.org.uk. This event will be held alongside the launch for a sister exhibition at The Piece Hall, ‘Humari Aawaz (Our Voices)’.

This exhibition is part of an ongoing project at Calderdale Industrial Museum. If you’re interested in sharing your story of working in local textile mills, you can get in touch by emailing enquiries@calderdaleindustrial.co.uk to learn more about the project.
