During their residency at Everybody Arts, Gold will explore how we, as individuals and an ecosystem, can survive similar and even far more challenging terrains than our present times.

Gold will be exploring two key areas: the interior self and the exterior self in the world. Looking at how interiority has been balanced in different cultures, Gold will explore how individuals can similarly use these resources. Gold will investigate how exteriority often does not reflect our internal perceptions of reality. Gold will investigate how individuals and their communities create habitats where they may learn, grow, work, create and nourish themselves, whilst continuously moving through this almost mycelium network of survival.

Gold’s work will be undertaken in conversation with local communities; exploring the richness of human connection. As part of this work, Gold will create a film that will be screened at the end of the residency.

About the Artist

Gold Maria Akanbi is a poly-sensory artist and researcher. Gold uses their intersectional identity to explore a myriad of concepts, such as: world-building; alternative utopias; Indigenous wisdom and forms of logic; interiority and aspects of self; and spirituality that uses the cohesiveness of the senses.

Gold’s work spans a plurality of mediums. Using mediums as languages for the audience, Gold hopes that through their plurality and poly-sensory approach, they will be able to communicate with as many audience members as possible.

With the ever changing frontier of humankind, Gold hopes to look to the past in order to find what truly makes us resilient as human beings.
