Code of Conduct
for all participants, staff, volunteers, and visitors
Since 2008, Everybody Arts has been a place where the opportunity to experience the benefits of art and understand its value is available to everybody, regardless of age, ability, background, or circumstance.
We champion art for everyday life and think that opportunity and engagement with art can make things better for everyone.
Our time, space and resources are dedicated to supporting artistic development, community and imagination, as such we are home to a thriving creative community where everyone is welcome.
We are dedicated to fostering a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful environment for all. To ensure a positive and inclusive experience for everyone, we have developed this Code of Conduct that outlines the expectations for all participants, staff, volunteers, and visitors.
Our Core Values
Inclusivity: We celebrate diversity in all its forms. Everyone, regardless of their background, identity, or abilities, is welcome here.
Respect: We treat each other with kindness, understanding, and respect, ensuring that everyone feels safe and valued.
Creativity and Expression: We encourage free and open creative expression while ensuring that such expression does not harm or marginalise others.
Accessibility: We strive to make our programmes, events, and spaces accessible to people of all abilities and needs.
Expected Behaviour
All members of the community are expected to comply with Everybody Arts policies, and all relevant legislation and:
Show Respect for Others: Treat every person with dignity, respect, and consideration, regardless of age, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, race, ethnicity, religion, or economic background.
Engage Constructively: Participate in discussions, collaborations, and activities in a way that is positive, constructive, and solution-focused.
Be Mindful of Language: Use inclusive and respectful language that fosters an environment free from harassment, bullying, and discrimination.
Respect Personal Boundaries: Be mindful of others' comfort levels with physical interaction, personal space, and emotional boundaries.
Act with Integrity: Uphold a standard of honesty, fairness, and transparency in all interactions.
Unacceptable Behaviour
The following behaviour is considered unacceptable and will not be tolerated:
Discrimination or Harassment: Including but not limited to offensive comments or actions related to race, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, appearance, religion, or other personal attributes.
Violent or Threatening Behaviour: Any form of physical or verbal abuse, intimidation, threats, or unwanted physical contact.
Disruptive or Harmful Behaviour: Any actions that disrupt events, programs, or create an unsafe environment for others.
Retaliation: Retaliation against anyone for reporting violations of this Code of Conduct or for participating in any investigation of a violation.
Commitment to Accessibility
We are committed to ensuring that our programmes, venues, and communications are accessible to everyone, regardless of physical, sensory, or cognitive abilities. If you require specific accommodations or have any accessibility needs, please inform us in advance so we can best support you.
Reporting Concerns
If you witness or experience behaviour that violates this Code of Conduct, we encourage you to:
Speak up: If you feel safe, let the individual know their behaviour is inappropriate and ask them to stop.
Report the Incident: Contact a staff member or designated person responsible for managing complaints. Reports can be made in person or anonymously through our designated reporting system info@everybodyarts.org.uk.
All reports will be handled with confidentiality and respect. We are committed to investigating and addressing any violations of this Code of Conduct promptly and fairly.
Consequences of Violating the Code of Conduct
Those who violate this Code of Conduct may face consequences including, but not limited to:
- Verbal or written warnings.
- Removal from an event or programme without a refund.
- Temporary or permanent suspension from participating in future events or programmes.
- In severe cases, involvement of law enforcement or legal action.
Amendments to the Code of Conduct
We recognise that good practice in accessibility and inclusion is a continual work in progress and we are always keen to hear ways we can improve. This Code of Conduct is a living document and may be revised to better reflect the values and needs of our community. We encourage all students, participants and visitors to help us to think about and learn what being ‘Everybody Arts’ means in practice, and contribute to a culture of equality, accessibility and inclusion.
